Internal combustion engine

Internal combustion engines works by burning fuel. The most common internal combustion engines use gasoline. Other engines are powered by diesel, hydrogen, methane, propane, butane and others.

Engines typically can use only one type of fuel and require adaptation and adjustment to use other fuels. In a gasoline engine, the mixture of gasoline and air is injected into the cylinder. The compression is done by a piston. The candle creates an electric spark that ignites the fuel.

Burning fuel generates heat and creates hot gases inside the cylinder, then the pressure created by the fuel and air mixture pushes the piston back down. The resulting exhaust gases are vented and disposed of through the exhaust system of the vehicle. The process continues to repeat until the engine is running.

The linear drive piston crankshaft produces circular motion. The valves control the intake, the mixture of fuel and air to allow the exhaust to exit at the right time. The main engines used in cars, jeeps, vans, trucks and other engines are four-stroke type engines. Four-cycle engines are more efficient than the two-stroke cycle.
