Air suspension in commercial vehicles

Many light-duty vehicles are equipped with air suspension. It helps the vehicle run smoothly and makes it enjoyable to ride. In automotive applications, air suspension systems typically include a number of airbags. Although air suspension serves a specific and very important goal in cars, many people do not understand and do not know how it works.

Light-duty vehicles equipped with air suspension require a number of different parts that work together to create a smooth, shocks absorbent ride. Air suspension parts are between wheels and the vehicle frame. Air suspension protects the driver and passengers from discomfort that can occur when the drive wheels pass through holes or other irregularities in the road.

The purpose of this type of suspension is to provide greater comfort and better driving. Vehicle weight is offset by suspension while driving. Air suspension has several features that allow the vehicle to not only absorb more shocks while running in traffic, but also allows the wheel to move up and down as you run from one side to the other.

This is achieved with the combination the various parts and components that have multiple points of control and flexibility. There are a number of other characteristics associated with air suspension, each acting for the effective absorption of shock caused by bumps in the road. Dampers are mounted separately on each wheel strut or wheel. A damping piston moves up and down to match the movement of the vehicle frame.

There are different types of suspension applied to different types of cars. One type is independent suspension, which uses a system with a short or long arm Strut system. This system uses a combination of MacPherson strut springs and dampers. Other types of suspensions used with short arm front suspension use longitudinal or transverse torsion.

Other vehicles, such as light trucks, may have leaf springs in the suspension itself. Some systems have automatic air suspension. These types may include an air pump that automatically inflates the airbags to a certain level. If the airbags are damaged, the vehicle may become difficult or even dangerous to drive.
