AdBlue and purity on diesel engines

AdBlue is a registered trademark of AUS32. Aqueous Urea Solution 32.5% is a water based solution that uses Selective Catalytic Reduction or SCR to reduce emissions of nitrous oxide from the exhaust of diesel engines. AUS32 is a solution with high purity demineralization, which is non-toxic and safe.

However, the solution can be corrosive to some metals. AdBlue brand is owned by the German Association of the Automotive Industry.

Under the direction of the on-board computer and Nox sensors, the liquid is pumped into the exhaust at a flow rate of 2 to 4 grams per gallon. As a result of the chemical reaction, a simple form of nitrogen and water vapor is created. AdBlue systems are designed with a capacity of 7 to 10 gallons.

Under normal operating conditions an AdBlue tank should be refilled only during a regularly scheduled maintenance. SCR systems are currently used in Europe, Japan, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, New Zealand and Singapore. All European truck manufacturers currently offer SCR equipped models.

Future emission standards will boost demand for the technology. SCR systems are sensitive to potential chemical impurities in the solution, therefore, it is essential for Adblue to maintain high standards of purity.

The use of SCR technology in Europe is necessary to develop an infrastructure for the supply of AdBlue. AdBlue spare parts are available through our website – findspares.co.za.
